Background

El Marco, or the Frame, is one of many self portraits by renowned Mexican painter Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon - or as she is better known, Frida Kalho.

This piece is a unique piece in her collection of self portraits for several reasons;
Firstly, this painting was groundbreaking as it was the first piece of art by any Mexican artist to be featured in the collection at the Louvre in Paris.

Secondly, unlike her other pieces, she experimented with mediums - instead of a canvas, she painted over a mirror she bought at a market is Oaxaca, and the central piece with her self portrait was painted on a separate piece of aluminum.  This painting also deviates from her other works by the inclusion of bright, cheery colors, using tradition Mexican motifs of flowers and birds.

Kahlo's self portraits are perhaps her most striking pieces, as she nearly always depicted herself staring directly at the viewer, serious, formidable, and unwavering.

Texture

I chose snow butter for the texture of this slime as it can hold it shape and color better than other textures. This allowed me to pull in the distinct colors and shapes from the painting into the slime design.  

Scent

The scent is drawn from the natural smells of Mexico, and named after the home where she spent much of her time, which is now a museum in Ciudad de México.

Product Details

6oz version comes with shrink plastic charm of the central self portrait, as an homage to the original painting with the self portrait painted on aluminum inserted into the rest of the painting. 

Both 2oz and 6oz versions come with miniature charm of the painting.
