Slime Basics

What is Slime?

Slime is a sensory toy, made from a mixture of borax and glue, which creates a holdable non-Newtonian fluid.

Handling and playing with slime provides a soothing, stress-relieving sensory experience, combining the senses of sound, smell, and touch.

What is it made of?

All slimes have a base of glue and borax solution. From there, slimes can contain a variety of components to create a wide range of textures: colorant, scented oils, glycerin, unscented soap, air dry clay, beads, sequins, Styrofoam, instant snow, plastic snow, and more non-toxic craft items.

The majority of scents created by The Library of Slime use non-artificial organic essential oils and organic glycerin. When required to evoke a particular mood or setting, artificial scents are included.

How do I play with Slime?

There is no wrong way to play with slime! That being said, there are some recommendations:

  • Thoroughly wash hands before and after playing with slime
NOTE: Be sure to wash your hands after playing with slime and before touching any pets
  • Start by poking a finger into the slime to check for it's stickiness level
  • Play with slime only 10 - 15 minutes a day to prevent drying it out
  • Avoid letting slime touch clothes, furniture, or carpet

What does it smell like?

The Library of Slime products primarily use non-artificial essential oils to scent the slimes. The scent level can vary from mild to medium.

Where should I keep it?

When not in use, store slime in an airtight container, out of direct sunlight

How long does slime last?

All slime will naturally dry and harden over time. Depending on the frequency of taking it out and playing with it, slimes generally last around three months.

Leaving slime alone for too long will cause it to deactivate, so be sure to maintain your slime by activating it regularly.

How to I get slime out of fabric or carpet?

Fresh slime can be hardened with the application of ice or ice pack - once completely hard, you can scrape off or vacuum up.

Slime can also be dissolved with a mixture of 2/3 cup white vinegar with 1/3 water - spray mixture on slime and wait for it to soak in before using a scrub brush on the effected area. Blot away excess liquid with a paper towel.

Slime Fixes

My slime is too sticky

Slime will melt or deactivate when exposed to heat, and also naturally over the course of time. Add a spritz of slime activator to the slime until it reaches the desired consistency. Slimes can also be placed in the fridge to help cool them down and reform.

If you are out of activator, you can make your own by combining one cup of hot water with one teaspoon of borax powder.

My slime is too hard

In an effort to combat potential temperature fluctuations during the shipping process, some slimes may arrive over activated.

To soften slime, knead in any kind of unscented hand or body lotion to white glue based slimes, or glycerin to clear glue slimes.

Time will also naturally soften all slimes.
