Background
Georgia O'Keeffe, also known as the mother of American Modernism, was an American painter and draftswoman, whose works spanned more than seven decades.
O'Keeffe is known for her depictions of the natural form, mainly including the plants and landscape from where she lived.
Despite the plant's reputation as both toxic and invasive, O'Keeffe was rather fond of the flowering weed, and cultivated it on her porch. She painted Jimson Weed more than once, but this particular painting she also named Miracle Flower, for her love of the plant.
Jimson Weed is an oil on linen painting, that O'Keeffe completed in 1936, and currently resides in the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
