Book Context
Mark Watney is part of the crew for a mission to Mars, and during an unexpected storm that forces the team to leave he is left behind and presumed dead.  Instead of dying, Watney survives and logs his experience trying to live on Mars while his crew and people back on Earth work on rescuing him.  As part of his survival, Watney figures out how to grow potatoes in the Martian environment.

Notes on Texture
The thick and glossy base is dual toned to represent the colors of Mars as seen from space.  The slime comes with a small amount of sand and lava rock to top, to represent the surface of the planet, and three wax coated, hand molded and painted, clay potatoes.  Crushing the potatoes into the slime results in a very light slay texture, and the wax dissipates.

Notes on Scent
I wanted something that reminded me of the red soil and bright sun of Mars, so mixed a blend of spicy ginger, sweet orange, and woodsy pinyon pine.
